Spotted – The sad side effects of poor interface design

Apologies for the camera-phone picture, but I saw this sign this morning and was torn between “aw cute” and sad. I’ve been a web developer (professionally) for five years now, and while I have full nerd cred, I’ve always found myself as the nerd hanging out with designers, or vice versa. I’ve learned to focus more on usability and enjoyability than just cramming as much crap as I possibly can into anything I build.
Our (forthcoming) flagship product, Boutique is being designed with the user experience as the top priority. I’m presently re-working some of the user flow based on some tips picked up in this wonderful book on Web Form Design by Luke Wroblewski. Rosenfeld Media, the (independent) publisher has a great business philosophy/ model worth checking out.
