Reinvent Retail

Thought leaders/entrepreneurs 37signals have an interesting post today about the book E-myth, which claims that “bakers shouldn’t run bakeries, plumbers shouldn’t run plumbing companies, and everyone else should think about how they could turn their small business into a franchise.”

THIS IS RETARDED!

This isn’t to say that any small businessperson doesn’t want success, but nobody is going into building a small (especially retail) business is doing so to become filthy rich. If you want that, go get an MBA and become a certified dumbass. [Apologies to any nice MBA people out there, but I've never met anybody who can mess up a good project like a Master]

Passion is the key reason intelligent, hard-working and creative people are going into retail. Not to mention building community and strengthening neighborhoods. Passion is why Matt and I started Reinvent Retail. We have very different yet complimentary backgrounds and wanted to work together to support independent retail.

Because I saw what happens when you have a successful record… and I didn’t enjoy the experience at all.

- What didn’t you like about it?

I remember things like, we’d be on tour and talking about the next town we’re going to and I’d hear guys in the band refer to the city as “a market.”
